The Thaw onto the Freeze – A Nat and Alyssa Story
Part Nine

A moment later, Alyssa opened her eyes, picked up the pen and scrawled her signature across the seal of the envelope. Looking back up at him, she asked, “are you going to send it to him?”

Nat held out his hand for the letter, and she gave it to him. “We’ll see,” he replied. “It all depends on you. I’ll be putting it into the family safe later. You can think of it as another piece of motivation to learn the material you should have learned in that course. In case the threat of an impending spanking doesn’t do it for you.” He watched her turn bright red.

“Yeah,” she said, slowly, obviously carefully selecting each word. “But you wouldn’t actually send the letter to him, right?”

Nat sighed, loudly, “Alyssa, what did I just say?” It was the loud sigh that was the problem, he only did that when he was about to get really mad.

“Okay, I’m sorry I bugged you about it,” Alyssa replied, knowing that she had definitely pushed that one too far. It was time to do damage control. She put on her best ‘oops, my bad, I’m too cute for you to be mad at me’ look that she could come up with at the moment and hoped that Nat would just let it go and move on.

“No, Alyssa, what did I just say?” he said again, talking just a tad bit slower. Ugh, she hated it when he did that. It was the whole, obviously you haven’t heard what I just said to you thing, so I’m going to talk slower and see if you get it this time. It was the absolute direct opposite of what she always tried to do, which was talk so fast that he could only hear every third word.

“You said that the decision was unknown, it would depend on whether I learned the material I was supposed to,” she replied dutifully.

“And did something happen in that two second time period that would make you think that I changed that answer?” Nat questioned her. She hated it when he did this. Absolutely hated it.

“No, sir,” she replied.

“So then why did you feel the need to press the issue, young lady?” Alyssa could hear the annoyance in his voice.

“I wasn’t thinking, and I shouldn’t have done so,” she told him, honestly. “I’m very sorry, I’ll try to remember not to do so in the future.”

“Let’s hope so,” he replied. “If it becomes a common occurrence I will not be pleased.” He gave her a look that made her squirm and Alyssa knew she was going to have to make sure that it didn’t happen often.

Instead of opening her big mouth and letting it get her into more trouble, she just nodded that she understood and hoped that he’d let her just nod. When she saw the look, she quietly added, “yes, sir.”

When Nat gave her a quick nod, smile, and reached over and squeezed her hand, she felt better. He wasn’t happy with what she had done, but he wasn’t going to be mad at her. It was something they could move past now. She smiled at him and saw that he had been waiting for her to look up. He always did that. It was like he was always waiting for her to meet his eyes. He always wanted to…check her retinas? No, everyone said she showed all her emotion in her eyes. That was probably why.

She heard him begin to speak again, “now I believe there are three more classes to get to regarding assignments and reading. I think you’d best go bend over the couch again.” With a gesture of his head, he nodded towards the living room, indicating that she had his permission to get up and go to the other room.

He gave her a few minutes and then stood up, himself, and walked into the living room. Alyssa was bent over the arm of the couch, as she had been last time, this time resting on her elbows, waiting for him to place a syllabus in front of her. “Good girl,” he said as he walked over. He placed the philosophy course syllabus down in front of her. “Should I assume that you haven’t retained this knowledge either?”

“Only something about Hanna Ardent at the Nuremberg Trials and what being a cog in the machine means,” she replied. With the serious tone that the day had so far, her answer caused him to laugh. He tamped it down quickly though. “It’s better than remembering nothing,” he said. “But still not satisfactory by any stretch of the imagination. We’ll begin at the second week again. Read.”

They went through the same process as earlier. Alyssa read off the content that was discussed every week, the assignments that she hadn’t done for every week. As she did, Nat brought the paddle down on her sore, but still deserving bottom. It was quite evident that she was feeling the spanking, by week five she couldn’t get the words out anymore.

It was time for a break. This time, a few minutes with him quietly talking to her while rubbing her back wouldn’t do the trick. So, he assisted her to her feet and walked her over to the corner. After ten minutes in time out Alyssa had calmed down a good deal, enough to finish the rest of the semester. Following that, back to the kitchen they went, where Nat dictated another letter for her to write.

It was the same process for the last two classes and to his surprise it went, not quickly, but definitely with less fuss than he would have expected.

After taking the fourth letter from her, Nat saw her looking at him quite apprehensively. “Yes, Alyssa, what is going on in that mind of yours? I see it moving a mile a minute?”

She just shook her head. Nat knew there was a question burning in there but if she wasn’t going to voice it, he wasn’t going to press her.

“Well, I think a late lunch is the next order of the day,” he said. Standing up, he pushed the notepad back in front of her. “I think, regarding you be disrespectful, you have one more letter to write, don’t you?”

As she looked up at him, confusion in her eyes, he stared down at her until he saw comprehension. She needed to apologize for being disrespectful to him. Adding another spanking would serve no purpose, Nat knew that. Having her write a letter, Lyssa poured her heart into letters. He knew that having her write a letter of apology would do the trick. While it may not be what some would consider a ‘punishment’, it would have the same effect, the necessary lesson would be learned.

He busied himself in the small kitchen as she started writing what he was sure would be one very long letter. Nothing from Alyssa was ever not long. About half an hour later he brought a plate full of sandwiches and two steaming mugs of soup over to the table. Returning actual kitchen area one more time, Nat poured two glasses of apple juice, knowing that it was Alyssa’s favorite. Returning to the table he took a seat, placing her glass nearer to her food which she still hadn’t acknowledged. Alyssa was deeply focused in her work.

“Alyssa, it’s time to eat you can finish later,” Nat said to her.

She seemed a bit startled by the sound of his voice. But once she recovered she looked up at him and gave a small smile, “I’m almost done, I promise.” While it might have sounded like a statement to anyone else, Nat was well aware it was a request to finish.

“Well, I’m glad to hear that,” he replied, focusing his eyes squarely on hers, “and I’ll allow you to finish writing as soon as we’ve eaten lunch.” She held his gaze for longer than he expected, close to a minute. Typically it was no longer than fifteen seconds before she gave it.

But, she sighed, nodded, and pushed the notebook away. “Yes sir,” she said, quietly. Alyssa really wanted to finish writing. Not for the normal reason either. It wasn’t one of those writing assignments where she wanted to finish it and get it over with. She was very focused on the letter of apology that she had been writing to Nat and she didn’t want to lose her train of thought.

It was a quiet meal. Alyssa was still in a good amount of pain and Nat knew that there wasn’t much point in trying engage her in conversation. He did attempt a bit, but her answers were short. She had begun shifting around on the chair, a sure sign that she was feeling the accumulated spankings from earlier.

Despite her discomfort, she finished eating nearly as quickly as he did. He had a feeling she was worn out and quite drained. Truthfully, he thought she could do with a nap, but he had told her that she could keep working on that letter and intended to keep his word.

Standing up he began clearing the dishes. “I’m going to wash these, Lyssa,” he said as he stood right next to her, looking down, a very obvious power position. “It will give you about ten, maybe fifteen more minutes to write. But by that time you need to be done with your letter, understand?”

He could tell she was ready to argue, which is why he had decided not to say anything until he was standing up. She took one look at his looming figure and nodded her head, managing to say, “yes, sir.”

For her sake Nat washed the dishes slowly. There were only a few of them, so it really couldn’t take all that long to wash them. But even washing as slowly as possible, it still only took about ten minutes to wash them all.

“All right Alyssa,” he said, wiping his hands on a dishtowel. “Finish up whatever sentence you’re writing and put the pen down.”

“I just need five more minutes, okay?” she said, not bothering to turn and look at him.

“That’s one,” he said, walking over towards the table, pulling out the chair and sitting down. Clearing his throat loudly, he waited for her to look up at him. When she did, Nat gave her a look that was part command, part disappointment.

To his surprise, she ignored him, shaking her head, putting her head back down, and scribbling with the pen, “really, just three more minutes, Nat, promise.”

He sighed, “That’s two. Do you really want to go to three, Alyssa?” He saw the pen stop moving and watched as she bit her lower lip. She then shook her head, for a second he thought she was about to disobey him again.

Instead she looked up at him, setting the pen down, and replied, “No, sir, I don’t. I’m sorry, I didn’t listen the first time.”

He smiled at her, “good girl.” He had to admit he had been holding his breath just a bit on that one. If she had pushed, if he had gotten to three, he’d have no choice but to punish her. That was the last thing he wanted to do at that moment.

Nat was quite aware that she expected to be turned back over his knee for more spankings. He wasn’t quite ready to do that to her yet. “I think it’s time you took a nap, kiddo.”

The look on her face told him that she was not at all thrilled with that suggestion. He laughed and told her that he’d take one also, it’d already been a long day. Pulling her chair out he helped her stand up, put his arm around her shoulders and guided her towards the stairs.

It was a long walk up that one flight. With the amount of pain she was in, Alyssa couldn’t go fast. Nat just kept his arm around her shoulder, staying with her the whole time.

Once on the second floor he walked her past her room, what would become her room, and down to the master bedroom.

“Hop on the bed for me, face down,” he said to her, as he disappeared into the bathroom for a moment.

When he reappeared Alyssa was still standing next to the bed. He gave her one of his stares and her babbling started nearly immediately. “I, please don’t, the bed is, I can’t.” That was all she managed before she just started crying.

Luckily, Nat understood exactly what she was trying to say. The bed was ridiculously high. It was a climb to get into every night for himself and Helen. She wasn’t able to do it, to climb on, not with the amount of pain she was in.

He gave her a small smile to calm her nerves, and then walked over, turned her so that she was facing the bed, putting one hand on each side of her hips, he lifted her up and placed her face down on the bed.

“Thank you,” he heard her say from somewhere in the mess of pillows.

Chuckling to himself, he replied, “you’re welcome, kiddo. I’m going to put some cream onto your fanny, it will help with the pain a bit, mainly it’s to make sure no skin gets broken.”

“Okay,” he again heard her, though he couldn’t actually see her head.

He saw her tense up the moment the cold goop landed on her right cheek. Even more tension was evidenced in her shoulders when Nat tried, as gently as possible to rub the cream around on her right and left buttocks. After a few minutes he could see her shoulders begin to fall, the tension was lessening a bit. She was starting to relax.

This wasn’t the cold cream that he’d sometimes give his daughter after she’d taken a very hard spanking, usually for lying to him as that was the only time he typically saw fit to take his belt off with her. Those spankings had been taking place more often since Tina had become a teenager.

He shook his head to himself as he continued to gently massage the salve into Alyssa’s wounded cheeks. Yes, much more often than he’d like, it’d seemed, Tina had been pushing those boundaries, thinking she could lie to both him and Helen. Each and every time she earned herself the same consequence. However, if she was well behaved during the punishment, which did not always happen, but when it did, Nat almost always brought her a specific cold cream at her bed time. It helped to alleviate the pain of the spanking.

That was not what he was putting on Alyssa at the moment. Not that she wasn’t in pain, he knew she was, and part of him longed to take some of it away. But they needed to finish everything for that semester. He was not about to give her a reason of any kind to turn around and think she hadn’t actually ‘paid the piper’ because he had soothed her pain midway through.

And he knew her, she would do just that.

Instead he was still putting a salve on her wounded tush, but he doubt it brought much relief to the pain. What it would do was make sure that there was less chance her skin would break open and bleed with these upcoming punishments.

When every last bit had been absorbed into her bottom, Nat went and washed his hands, placing the jar back in the medicine cabinet. Staring at his reflection for a moment, he reminded himself that he was okay, that he could do this. That she was okay, that she had asked him to, and that in the long run, it’d help her. This time he didn’t bother looking up to the heavens for some sort of answer or explanation. He had learned, if there was one, he’d find out what it was eventually.

Exiting the small bathroom, he went over to the other side of the bed and hoisted himself up. Settling back, he said, “can I give you hug sweetheart?” It was less than a second before she was in his arms, the top half of her at least.

“You’re doing so well, Alyssa, I want you to know how proud of you I am, you’re taking your punishment like a mature adult, not fighting every step of the way. And you owned up to everything and asked for help. That takes real courage sweet heart, I’m very proud.”

He felt her moving around a bit until she found that one spot where she seemed to think that her head fit perfectly while he was holding her. All was quiet for a few minutes and then Alyssa spoke very softly, “Nat, it really is nothing, I promise, it’s really small.”

“Hmm…tell me,” he responded.

“It’s just, the Physics class,” Alyssa said.

“What about it?” he replied.

“Kim didn’t put me in it,” she sounded more than hesitant, he noticed, she nearly sounded scared. “You did.”

“I did?” Nat leaned his head up to look over at her. She peeked up from where she had managed to fit her head neatly in his arm pit. When she met his eyes she nodded.

“You registered me for classes that first semester because Kim was on vacation.”

“Oh, I see,” Nat replied, sitting back “and I take it I never told you it was a physics class.”

“No,” he heard her say quietly, and drawn out. He waited for her to continue, because when she spoke like that, drawing out a one word answer, it only ever meant she was gearing up to tell him something else. “You also put me in a 7:30 AM math class but I dropped that one.”

He started laughing. “Yes, I don’t know what I was thinking doing that to you.” He tickled her a little, getting her to laugh as well.

He could feel her start to relax and hoped she would rest for a little while. She needed to. “Are you cold sweetheart?”

While she shook her head, he could see the goose bumps on her body. “Well, let’s get some blankets on you just in case, okay?” She nodded, lifting her chest and stomach up, so he could pull down the comforter on the neatly made bed, and then her hips and legs, until Nat freed the blanket. He covered her with the flat sheet, blanket and down comforter.

Settling down next to her, as he knew she didn’t want to be alone, he made sure that he was on top of the flat sheet, before pulling the blanket and comforter over himself. It was chilly in that room.

Taking her back into his arms, he said, “ok, time to rest, all right, sweetie?”

“Yes sir,” she replied.

Nat watched over her until she fell asleep, which didn’t take all that long. Within ten minutes she had fallen asleep, her head and the upper portion of her body tucked in his arms, the rest of her taking great care to not let her bottom touch the bed. Glancing outside through the side window he could see the weather taking a turn for the worst. How long this time? Nat wondered to himself. Long enough to get through that entire transcript? Surely a storm couldn’t last that long.
