We are now so familiar with the footage. The tall red haired woman was trying to explain things her slight looking 22 year old niece.

“Kimberley, I want you to understand just how serious it could have been had you not been stopped. Drunk drivers kill.”

The younger woman responded.

“Look I said I’m sorry.”

The older woman, who was then actually only 28 at the time, was feeling exasperated.

“Young lady I want you to understand things and the consequences.”

The younger woman responded in the worst possible way.

“Whatever, Aunt Geri.”

The taller woman got angrier.

“Whatever doesn’t cover anything and my name is Geraldine.”

Then the younger woman made her biggest mistake.

“OK so I get the lecture, what are you going to do, spank me?”

Kimberley actually giggled.

At that moment Geraldine Sullivan- Williams really lost her temper. She grabbed her niece and pulled down her jeans and panties. The tall strong former tennis professional was on the sofa and the niece over her knees.

Unfortunately for Kimberley her aunt had a hairbrush in her purse.

We all remember seeing that spectacular 2 minute sequence. Within a minute the younger girl’s bottom was vivid red. She was bawling and kicking. Then the door opened. The older woman’s husband arrived.

12 years later Kimberley and George had both graduated and were successful professionals. Geraldine had enjoyed a stellar political career. She had been a successful progressive Mayor of New York City.

There was a compromise agreed. The Senator and former governor of West Virginia had been nominated as President, Geraldine for Vice President.

At the start of October the guy at the top of the ticket had a serious stroke. Suddenly a woman President seemed likely.

The polls were very close around Halloween. The former boy friend of the former nanny realized that he possessed a valuable item.

The political operatives on the Republican side were certain that what they were doing would make a decisive difference.

The day after Halloween 120 million Americans saw the footage. Exposing the Democrat candidate as a woman who would spank her niece for drunk driving did make a huge difference.

Geraldine Sullivan Williams took 57% of the popular votes and carried 43 states.

Then there was the New Jersey case. Barbara Jackson was arrested for assault after she, having been given responsibility for her 19 year old half brother, had spanked him when she found stolen goods in his room.

She was acquitted on the ground that her action prevented a more serious crime.

New Jersey adopted the ‘Minor Citizens’ law which allowed people who might have faced criminal sanctions to be adopted by an ‘Official Aunt’ with the authority to amongst other things spank.

Now in every state the sale of hairbrushes has gone through the roof.
